Othmarscher A-Chor inspires in Prague: an unforgettable experience!
At the end of June the time had come: the A choir of the Christianeum in Othmarschen went on a big concert tour to Prague. With almost 300 talented singers from years 8 to 12, the school's oldest choir packed its bags to take part in a musical exchange that was peppered not only with impressive concerts but also with historical explorations. 19 supervisors as well as five drummers, two pianists and three vocal soloists supported the young people on this unique journey. The A choir performed Carl Orff's “Carmina Burana” in the Domovina Concert Hall, a highlight that took place in collaboration with the Prague choir Camerata Praha. A rousing evening, confirmed choir member Charlotte Wachs when she reported thunderous applause and beaming faces.
But Prague had even more to offer. The program also included impressive city tours to sights such as Prague Castle and the German Embassy. A particularly impressive part of the trip was the visit to the former Theresienstadt concentration camp, which deeply impressed the young people. Charlotte Wachs described the tour as exciting but also frightening - a part of the story that made you think.
Musical experiences and cultural encounters
The A Choir also had the opportunity to perform at various locations in Prague. Performances in the inner courtyard of Prague Castle and in front of the impressive town hall were on the program. Here the students were welcomed by the municipal administration, which further enhanced the special atmosphere of the trip. Another highlight was the folk dance flash mob on the Old Town Market Square, where 300 participants enthusiastically danced along. The crowd was so big that many passers-by watched and tried to join in. A Prague television team also captured the happy scene.
Choir director Timo Sauerwein praised the trip as an important building block in the city partnership between Prague and Hamburg. The importance of cultural encounters and historical education was strongly expressed in the students' conversations and experiences. After returning to Hamburg, the young people reported a feeling of community and lasting impressions that they took home with them from the Czech capital. Some of them were even willing to bring their instruments back to school immediately after driving home.
A successful exchange
This concert tour by the A Choir is not only a musical achievement, but also a valuable experience in understanding the history and culture of another country. It becomes clear how important such exchange projects are for the young generation.
