FC St. Pauli on alert: Saliakas is suffering from another injury!

A start to the season with challenges: FC St. Pauli is faced with some injury-related setbacks right from the start. While the start of training represents a new opportunity for many players, Jackson Irvine and Karol Mets are missing. Of particular concern are the problems of Manos Saliakas, who is struggling with pubic bone problems and is therefore unable to take part in training. Adam Dzwigala is also not feeling well at the moment and is training individually due to health problems. This situation casts a shadow over the team's preparations for the coming season, as [Bild] reports.

Saliakas’ injury is anything but trivial. The player had muscle problems in his calf last year and now there are signs of a more serious issue. Coach Alexander Blessin takes the situation seriously and expresses caution: “We’ll have to see from week to week.” Pubalgia or osteitis pubis, an inflammation of the pubic bone that is known to be painful and protracted, is suspected. Past examples, such as David Nemeth's, show that such injuries can result in months of downtime.

Inflammation of the pubic bone is a stubborn problem

Inflammation of the pubic bone, also known as osteitis pubis, is often the result of excessive or incorrect strain, especially in athletes. It manifests itself as pressing pain in the groin area, which worsens with any movement. The exact causes are varied: from muscular imbalances to incorrect regeneration to misaligned feet - all of this can lead to this painful disease, as [Lumedis] explains.

The treatment options are wide-ranging. As a rule, the first step is to work with rest, adapted training therapy and anti-inflammatory measures. Surgical procedures are rare and should only be considered in serious cases. Athletes treated conservatively can wait between 9.14 and 18.5 weeks for their return-to-sport period. A systematic analysis has shown that RTS for surgically treated athletes often occurs after just six to twelve weeks, underscoring the urgency of targeted treatment, as [Sports Medicine] emphasizes.

The FC St. Pauli management has its hands full managing the injuries in the team. But the prognosis is anything but simple - pubic bone inflammation can prove long-term, and medical professionals are faced with the challenge of giving players the best possible path back to training. We can only hope that Manos Saliakas will get fit again quickly with the care taken.
