Major operation on the Reeperbahn: fire extinguished in St. Pauli!
On Sunday evening, November 9th, 2025, it took place on the legendary Reeperbahn in Hamburg-St. Pauli to a massive fire. According to mopo.de, the fire department was alerted at 8:10 p.m. after several emergency calls were received about flames and injuries. What a shock when the first responders encountered thick smoke and firelight coming from a broken window on the ground floor of a popular pub!
The fire department immediately mobilized three fire engines and an extensive rescue team. Around 140 emergency services from the professional fire brigade, volunteer fire brigade and the rescue service were on site to fight the fire. During the extinguishing work, it became clear that the fire had spread from the ground floor through the ceiling to the first floor and into an adjacent hostel. The deployment was then increased to the keyword “fire with three fire engines”, which made the urgency of the situation clear.
Rescue and medical care of the injured
Two slightly injured people were found in front of the building. One of them suffered cuts from shards of glass from a broken window. Both received quick medical attention and were transported to area hospitals to ensure they received professional help. Luckily, no other people needed to be rescued from the hostel as it was completely searched and there were no people left in the building.
The fire department carried out extensive ventilation measures to remove the toxic smoke from the building. Parts of the roof had to be opened to extinguish embers that kept the fire burning longer than initially expected. The fire was finally brought under control and extinguished around midnight.
Reeperbahn closed and cause of fire unclear
The Reeperbahn was completely closed to traffic throughout the operation, which caused additional complications and diversions in the district. The fire department has taken the necessary measures to ensure everyone's safety. The cause of the fire is initially suspected to be deflagration, but a precise investigation is still pending. There will certainly be more information here once the investigation is complete and the city releases more details.
A dramatic evening for the residents and guests in the area, which fortunately had no serious consequences. The emergency services have once again proven that they show a high level of commitment and can act quickly in crisis situations. How many more such operations will follow in the city remains to be seen. Until then, the hope remains that the evenings on the Reeperbahn will continue to be sociable and carefree.
