Unforgettable Boy Scout camp in Hamburg: time travel and adventure!
History always comes to life in Hamburg – thanks to the voluntary work of Stanytzja Hamburg. The youth project “Where am I?” took place for the first time in the summer of 2023. took place, in which 30 Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts took part. This camp was very special because it was characterized by exciting time travel through different countries and eras. The participants turned into little historians and traveled to, among other places, ancient Japan, medieval England and even the USA in the 1960s. This cultural diversity made for an unforgettable week full of adventure and creative activities.
The daily experiences ranged from Kabuki theater and sumo in Japan to a knightly cross-country game and making hippie friendship bracelets. Creative upcycling projects were also part of the program, which not only gave the young people fun but also gave them important life skills. In the end, the new friendships and enthusiasm for being a Scout were the greatest reward.
Dedicated support and traditions
A dedicated management team ensured that the atmosphere in the camp was lively and welcoming. All the better that the event took place not only because of the enthusiasm of the participants, but also because of the generous support of numerous helpers. The Hamburg donation parliament, Caritas in the North and the German Children's Fund did great work, accompanied by the tireless efforts of committed parents and scouts who contributed to the success of the camp through bazaars, cookie baking and flea market sales.
The Scout traditions did not fall by the wayside. Orderly arrival, a nightly alarm and team tasks in everyday camp life ensured that the young people learned early on to take responsibility and orientate themselves in a team. This is entirely in line with the goal of the scout movement, which aims, among other things, to impart skills and values for a future-oriented life to young people, as explained in detail on Wikipedia.
Looking into the future: PSG federal camp
In connection with the Boy Scouts, reference should also be made to the upcoming PSG federal camp “Weltenmaler*in”, which will take place from July 29th to August 6th, 2023 in Westernohe. Around 500 scouts from all over Germany are expected here. Under the motto “Reshaping and changing the world through creative thinking,” the camp is dedicated to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Such initiatives are important to promote holistic, non-formal learning and support young people on their way to assuming responsibility in society. At this camp, too, participants can count on gatherings, campfires and creative outdoor games.
The scouts who are involved in these activities come together in a strong movement in Germany that has over 230,000 members. Through a variety of offers and events, young people not only get to know themselves better, but also each other, which strengthens the community and understanding for one another.
