Warm wishes: 16-year-old Manja makes her dream vacation come true!
With its “Wünschewagen” project, the Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund (ASB) has created an exciting opportunity to fulfill the last wishes of seriously ill people. An impressive example comes from the North Frisian island of Föhr, where 16-year-old Manja (name changed) enjoyed an unforgettable stay with her aunt and her mother. How moin.de reports, Manja fulfilled her long-cherished wish for a last vacation on the North Sea, realized by a wish car from Ludwigsburg.
The Wish Car enables seriously ill people to travel to their desired locations and experience special moments with their loved ones. It is equipped with the latest emergency medical equipment to ensure safety during the trip. The volunteer “wish fulfillers” are also active in Ludwigsburg - every year over 2,000 wishes are fulfilled nationwide, financed by donations and the commitment of volunteers befluegelt-von.de.
The journey to Föhr
While Manja's journey was wonderful, it was not without its challenges. After an eventful week, the team asked for support from their Hamburg colleagues for the return journey. This was severely affected by traffic chaos, traffic jams and even closures, such as the Elbe tunnel closure, which led to delays lasting hours. Despite these adversities, Manja felt fulfilled and happy when she was handed back to the wish fulfillers from Ludwigsburg, at the end of a journey that meant a lot to her.
A special day for Gisela
Another touching example is 69-year-old Gisela, who has never been to the sea before. Despite the difficult fate that befell her during the corona pandemic, she did not allow herself to be discouraged. Her greatest wish: to travel to the North Sea. Thanks to the ASB Lower Saxony Wish Cart and supporters like the Palliative Network Peine, this wish became reality. Gisela was accompanied by volunteers who ensured that she was able to spend a carefree day in Cuxhaven, where she was even able to experience ship watching as the highlight of her trip, reports derwesten.de.
Their trip, which lasted just five hours, may have been their first and last visit to the sea, but the memories will last forever. Gisela enjoyed feeling the sun on her face and took a deep breath of the salty air while enjoying a delicious currywurst with fries and an ice cream with sauce. Such moments are invaluable to many people struggling with serious illnesses.
A look into the future
The ASB project “Wünschewagen” was launched in 2014 and is now active in all federal states. In addition to fulfilling wishes such as a visit to a zoo or family farm, community and cohesion is also strengthened in these emotional times. The helpers – doctors, nurses and volunteer supporters – work hand in hand to give these people lasting memories. In Brandenburg, too, the wish car has fulfilled over 100 wishes and enjoys ever-growing support from society.
Whether Manja or Gisela, the stories show how valuable it is to take care of people's hearts and bring them joy in difficult times. It is up to all of us to make the “Wünschewagen” initiative known and hopefully give even more people a piece of happiness.
