On Sunday, temperatures between 31 and 36 degrees can be expected, accompanied by sunshine, which will, however, be replaced by a few clouds in Franconia and Swabia in the evening. But this heat does not come without after-effects. Thunderstorms cannot be ruled out on Monday night, although the exact regions affected are still unclear.
Storm warnings in Bavaria
Weather experts warn about the possible consequences of this heat wave. The DWD has already issued severe weather warnings for some regions, such as calf reported. The districts of Hof, Wunsiedel in the Fichtelgebirge and Tirschenreuth in particular have to prepare for strong thunderstorms. These can be accompanied by heavy rain of up to 15 l/m² per hour, wind gusts of up to 60 km/h and small-grain hail. Warnings also apply for Passau, Deggendorf and Freyung-Grafenau.
The heat warnings for the rest of Bavaria remain in effect for the time being. It is even feared that the heat will last until August 30 in the northern Bavarian region, with the possibility that the thunderstorms could arrive sooner. A meteorologist points out that this is the longest heat wave of 2024.
