Anklam is investing 4.6 million euros in a new industrial area!
The city of Anklam has taken the plans for a new industrial area to the next phase. With an extensive investment volume of 4.6 million euros, the area that extends east of the Lilienthalring is expected to become reality in the near future. At the last city council meeting, the revised plan received the green light after implementing comments from the Nature Conservancy; However, areas worthy of protection were removed from the project. A new round of interpretation is now imminent, which is intended to obtain further clarification from authorities and residents. At least that's how the NDR reports on the ongoing developments in Anklam.
As Mayor Michael Galander emphasizes, the industrial area on Bargischower Weg could act as a real unique selling point for the city. The targeted area of almost 100 hectares should lie between the residential area on Gneveziner Damm and the neighboring towns of Gnevezin and Bargischow. Nevertheless, the expected total costs for developing this new area amount to around 30 million euros, with a considerable part going towards the acquisition of around 1.3 million ecopoints, emphasizes Nordkurier.
Collaborations and challenges
The city can count on a number of cooperation partners. Among other things, there is a declaration of intent between the Anklam sugar factory, the energy company Enertrag and the Anklam real estate and housing industry (GWA) for potential cooperation. These partnerships could provide new impetus in the region, especially in the area of bioeconomy, where there are potential offers of space for other companies.
But not everything goes without obstacles. An ongoing case at the Higher Administrative Court is related to a lawsuit filed by the Vorpommern-Greifswald district against the nearby solar park, which is intended to contribute to the sustainable electricity supply of the planned industrial area. This is where the tensions between economic development and the interests of nature conservation become apparent.
Interested investors
The city administration has already held initial discussions with several potential investors. Automobile manufacturers, among others, are showing great interest in the new industrial area. A notable aspect, however, is that the Chinese car manufacturer BYD, despite initial interest, ultimately decided on a location in other European countries. This raises questions about how Anklam can attract investors in the future, especially with a view to possible strict requirements regarding noise emissions for neighboring residential areas.
In order to put the project into practice, the city is currently examining possible funding to cushion the high costs. She is also advised by a specialized law firm. Further information about funding opportunities can be found on the official website of the funding database.
As Anklam enters a new phase of growth, it remains to be seen to what extent the efforts to develop the industrial area will bear fruit and what challenges the city will still face. NDR and Northern Courier regularly report on the latest developments and decisions that will directly affect many citizens in Anklam.
