Christoph Campe is leaving: A football role model says goodbye to Anklam!
On Saturday at 2 p.m. VFC Anklam awaits its last game of the season in its home stadium against SV Kröslin. The team would like to say goodbye to the summer break with a brilliant victory. After VFC Anklam surprisingly finished second in the first half of the season, the second half of the season was disappointing: with just 9 points from 12 games, the team slipped to sixth place in the table. This decline in sport can be attributed, among other things, to bad luck with injuries and fluctuations in form. After a ten-game losing streak, the VFC was recently able to see a ray of hope and won 2-1 against Richtenberg, which not only gives hope but also strengthens team spirit.
Among the players, Christoph Campe is particularly mentioned, as he is hanging up his football boots after this season. The long-time top performer, who has been part of VFC Anklam since 1999, has not only proven what he is capable of as a player, but also as a role model for his teammates. Coach Nils Gütschow emphasizes Campe as a loyal and helpful person.
A special career
Campe talks about his best memories in football, especially a league game against Greifswalder FC, where he scored the equalizer. These experiences are worth much more to him than goals or victories. “Team solidarity and shared experiences were always more important to me,” emphasizes the player.
During his active career, Campe was influenced not only by his youth coach Henry Gransow, but also by his men's coach Hagen Reeck. “I would like to give the next generation the advice to never give up and to see football as support,” he says as he prepares himself for the time after his career. He will spend more of this time with his family, while it is still unclear what role he will play in football or at VFC Anklam in the future.
Football in Germany – a passion
Football is the most popular sport in Germany, with around 6.5 million members in over 27,000 clubs. An impressive structure has developed, ranging from the Bundesliga, which was founded in 1963, to the regional leagues. The Bundesliga is not only the top division, but also the stage where the German champion is determined. In addition to national tournaments such as the DFB Cup, football in Germany has a history that dates back to 1873, when the sport came to Germany from the British Isles.
A lot has happened since then - from the first set of rules presented in 1875 to the founding of the German Football Association (DFB) in 1900. The German national team has also been characterized by ups and downs, but has also celebrated great successes, including four world championship titles. Another phenomenon of this sport is the fan culture, which has developed since the 1970s and has shaped the atmosphere in the stadiums.
With the prospect of the last matchday of the season and the farewell of a loyal player, VFC Anklam is facing a turning point. There are always new challenges in football, but the joy and passion that accompany this sport remain. And so the entire team has to give everything for a positive end this Saturday.
