Frank Burmester: Anklam's sports legend remains active in retirement!

A life in motion – that’s how Frank Burmester’s work could be summarized. The 66-year-old Anklamer, who retired exactly a year ago as a sports and biology teacher at the Lilienthal High School, remains tirelessly active. With a CV characterized by commitment and passion, he has not only shaped generations of students, but has also had a lasting impact on the sporting landscape in the region.

Burmester was born in Rubkow and grew up in an educational home - his father was a director while his mother worked as a secretary. After graduating from high school in Anklam in 1977 and then serving three years in the army, he returned to learning: at the University of Greifswald he studied sports and biology to become a teacher and quickly became known as the organizer of events in his student club.

A formative teacher

In 1991, Burmester finally found his way back to Anklam, where he played a decisive role in shaping school life at the Lilienthal-Gymnasium. Especially when it comes to promoting sports, he makes no effort to motivate his students to take part and form teams for competitions such as “Youth training for the Olympics”. He was also active in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district sports association and regularly took responsibility in board meetings and in the planning of competitions.

His sporting background is not just limited to the teacher's bench: in his own youth he was proud to win the school championship title for Schwarz-Weiß Rubkow. Today he is still active at VFC and regularly visits the first men's team's games. With a son, Phil Skeip, who played for the same club for many years, the passion for sport remains alive in the family.

Commitment also outside of sport

But Burmester's commitment is not only evident in sport. There are numerous volunteer opportunities in Anklam, which are actively attracting more and more people. Youth work is very important in the city: in the youth club, young people between the ages of 6 and 26 can live out their talents in music, dance and creative projects. The parishes also offer space for regular activities, which further strengthens the community. Community activities such as theater performances and concerts are particularly popular, as is helping in the soup kitchen or at Advent bazaars.

The offers are aimed at those who want to spend a good time together and at the same time do good for disadvantaged groups such as children, the homeless and people with disabilities. Burmester's loyalty, reliability and interest in social causes also make him a role model for the younger generation. He is known for maintaining friendships and traditions, and his commitment to the community remains undiminished.

Whether at the Rostock City Run, where he completed an impressive time of 35:44 minutes on the six-kilometer route in May, or in his free time with his club - Frank Burmester lives the values that have always been important to him.
