New hiking trail in Schwingetal: access to untouched nature planned!
A new hiking trail could soon cause enthusiasm in the Sassen-Trantow and Loitz region. Mayor Dietmar Blohm initiated the project to enable access to the untouched nature in the Schwingetal. The proposal was made public at the end of 2024 and generated positive feedback from residents.
On the agenda of the Peenetal/Loitz official committee, head of office Thomas Redwanz has now announced the decision to move forward with the construction project of a boardwalk as an official project. “We would like to make a public commitment to building a hiking trail along the Schwingetal and Peenewiesen nature reserve,” said Redwanz. However, the financial viability of the project must first be checked before a planning office can be hired.
Nature experience in the Schwingetal
The planned route leads from Trantow-Sandberg to Loitz and fits harmoniously into the impressive landscape of the Schwingetal. This landscape protection area, which is looked after by the Stade district, is characterized by a meandering course of the Schwinge, high proportions of grassland and unused and extensively used areas. Particularly noteworthy are the old beech and oak-hornbeam forests that thrive on the valley slopes, and the ecologically valuable riparian and moorland forests in the lowlands.
The unique flora and fauna in the Schwingetal provides a habitat for numerous animal species, including the white stork, otter and river and stream lamprey. Such a project not only contributes to the recreation of residents and visitors, but also to the protection of a valuable ecological heritage, which is significantly promoted by nature conservation. The NABU particularly emphasizes the importance of such protected areas as refuges for many wild animals and plants.
From the idea to implementation
The connection of the new hiking trail to existing boardwalk paths, such as the one between Zeitlow and Pensin, ensures that the region becomes even more attractive for those seeking advice who want to experience nature. Financial planning is a central aspect that is intended to ensure that this project can actually be realized. The next steps will now be coordinated with the responsible authorities and organizations.
Overall, the planned hiking trail is intended to offer real added value for both residents and tourists and help to profile the region as an attractive resort. The prospect of a new path in the middle of the spectacular nature of the Schwingetal gives hope for many wonderful days of excursions in the future.
Further information on the details of the landscape protection area can be found on the NLWKN page. Let us be surprised at how quickly the plans become reality and we can experience the untouched beauty of nature up close.
