East Western Pomerania rescue dog squad gets a new emergency vehicle!

The volunteers of the rescue dog team of the DRK district association East Western Pomerania-Greifswald can be happy! They have received a brand new emergency vehicle, which is essential for their important work in finding missing people. The handover took place as part of the MV Day in Greifswald and was received with great enthusiasm by those present. Loud Northern Courier The new vehicle has a price of just under 100,000 euros, of which around 48,000 euros were funded by the MV Citizens' Fund. Generous support from companies and private individuals also contributed to its implementation.

The new Ford Transit has been converted to specific requirements and now offers five integrated dog boxes as well as storage space for essential emergency equipment such as radios, GPS devices and even a drone. The vehicle is urgently needed to bring emergency services safely and reliably to their location in a wide variety of situations - whether during the day or at night. Anette Quandt, the head of the rescue dog team, was grateful for the intensive planning of the vehicle conversion by the district association.

Rescuer on four paws

The rescue dog team has already had impressive successes. A 91-year-old missing person was recently found in Rostock. A real success that is not only due to the animal, but also to the excellent training of the dog handlers. How ASB reported, the training of the rescue dog teams lasts around 1.5 to 2 years and includes basic medical knowledge, operational tactics and orientation in the terrain.

It is important for the operation that missing people should ideally not be missing for more than 72 hours in order to increase the chances of successful discovery. In addition, precise information about the possible whereabouts, such as preferences for certain walks, and the presence of odorous objects from the missing person's personal environment are of great importance. The dog handlers select these items carefully so as not to distort the smell, which makes the search much easier, according to the website DRK East Western Pomerania explained.

Those interested in serving in the rescue dog team can also participate and support the teams, even if they do not own a dog. The use of the squadron is free of charge for the people being sought, but there are important costs for clothing, equipment and training. The new Ford Transit will certainly help many more missing people to be found quickly and safely. Cheers to the four-legged heroes!
