Secrets of practice with a sea view: Rügen in film fever!

The Baltic Sea island of Rügen, which is one of the most famous holiday destinations in Germany with its picturesque coasts and charming towns, has captured the heart of the ARD film series “Praxis mit Meerblick” since 2017. This popular series tells the stories of doctor Nora Kaminski, who, after ending her career as a cruise doctor, dares to make a new start on Germany's largest island. How joyn reported, 26 episodes have already been produced to date, with filming for the new episodes taking place between August and October 2024.

The setting plays a central role in this series. Rügen with its impressive chalk cliffs, picturesque harbor towns and fine sandy beaches is skilfully showcased. The most famous filming locations include not only the suspension bridge at the harbor in Sassnitz, but also the popular beaches of Binz and the historic town of Bergen. Filming in these idyllic locations offers viewers an impressive view of the island's beauty.

Filming locations in focus

The “Joint Practice Dr. Freese & Nora Kaminski” will be familiar to many fans of the series. But the practice itself is artfully composed of two buildings: While the exterior shots were filmed at Rosa-Luxemburg-Straße 6 in Sassnitz, the interior shots took place in a holiday apartment on the same street. The hospital, which is often seen in the series, is located in Bergen on Rügen, but the exterior shots are shot at the West Hospital in Stralsund.

Another important location is the apartment of Peers, Nora's ex-husband, which can be seen in the newly designed Prora. This former Nazi construction site from the 1930s was converted into modern holiday apartments and offers an innovative contrast to the impressive history of the place. In Prora there is even talk of the famous “Colossus of Rügen”, which was planned at the time as the “KdF seaside resort of Rügen” but was never completed.

A look into history

Not only the picturesque backdrop, but also Rügen's eventful history captivates the audience. Immediately after the Second World War, Rügen was not known as a holiday island, on the contrary: many of the residents were refugees, and hotels were transformed into emergency accommodation. The “Aktion Rose” in 1953 is another dark part of the island’s history. This political measure led to the arbitrary expropriation of private property and its conversion into public property, which significantly affected people's lives. This part of the story is discussed in reports from holidaymakers and locals and offers a deep insight into the reality on Rügen at the time ardmedia library.

The series “Practice with a Sea View” is not only an entertainment offer, but also a window into the past and present of the Baltic Sea island of Rügen. With a mix of heart, humor and dramatic elements, it guarantees that viewers will not only follow the characters' stories, but also immerse themselves in the beauty and history of this unique region.

Not only is the loving staging of the filming locations appreciated, but also the familiar faces, such as the main character Nora Kaminski, played by Tanja Wedhorn, who works with Dr. Richard Freese (Stephan Kampwirth) opens a new practice on Rügen. Your goal: to create a new life in the middle of the spectacular landscape of the Baltic Sea. The series is broadcast as part of the ARD series “Endlich Freitag im Erste”, which may also contribute to the popularity of the show and continues to amaze viewers.
