Binz, Deutschland - What's going on in Mainz? In the summer of 2025, the city is offered a diverse range of language course for newly immigrant children and young people. A total of 190 German courses are organized at schools in Mainz to facilitate access to those who have little or no knowledge of German. Of the courses offered, 114 at primary schools, 68 at secondary schools and 8 at vocational schools will take place. Around 1800 students can benefit from these offers. The costs for the holiday language courses are borne by the Ministry of Education, while the Ministry of Family, Women, Culture and Integration (MFFKI) contributes to financing with 50,000 euros annually.

state investments in language support

The support for these courses comes at an important time: The state government is investing around 89 million euros in language support in schools and daycare centers in 2025. This corresponds to an increase of around 47 million euros compared to the past five years. These investments are not only essential for integration, but also for equal opportunities for young migrants who want to find a new home in Germany. Schools can apply for the courses through local adult education centers and district colleges to exploit the necessary resources.

The integration and language promotion of immigrants are also of great importance at the federal level. The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF) has established integration courses that consist of language and orientation courses. These not only convey the language, but also information about life in Germany and its values. A special focus is on special offers for women, parents and young people.

measures for social integration

In addition, the Federal Government supports projects that promote the encounter between immigrants and the admission company. According to the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth, the funding aims at the social integration of fleeing and migrants easier. One focus is on the particularly protective groups, which include women, children and unaccompanied minors.

Volunteering is supported by programs such as "People strengthen people" who promote sponsorships to promote linguistic and social participation. Such initiatives contribute to the fact that immigrants not only learn the language, but also make social contacts and better integrate into society.

The interaction of all of these measures shows how important the joint use of schools, authorities and committed citizens is in order to successfully master the challenges of integration. It remains to be hoped that the broad offer in Mainz not only improves language skills, but also conveys a feeling of belonging.
