Fulfill wishes: Christmas campaign starts on the 1st of Advent in Buxtehude!
The contemplative Christmas season is fast approaching and with it the anticipation of all the lovely traditions. One of these beautiful campaigns is the wishing tree at St. Peter's Church in Buxtehude, which officially starts on the 1st Sunday of Advent, November 30th. For 20 years, this campaign has been supporting children from financially burdened families and helping to make their Christmas wishes come true. This year, around 250 wishes were sent to the parish, all anonymized so that only the child's first name, age and gender are known. Kreiszeitung Wochenblatt reports that the wishing tree will be ceremoniously presented during the service on the 1st of Advent at 10 a.m. and that those interested will then have the opportunity to pick a star from the tree and get a gift.
For those who cannot make it to the service, there are additional opportunities to take part in the campaign. On Sunday, November 30th, wishing stars can be picked up from the church until 5 p.m.; From Monday to Wednesday (December 1st to 3rd) the doors are open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The gifts provided by the generous donors must be delivered on the third weekend of Advent, specifically on Friday, December 12th, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and on Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is important that the original wishing star is clearly visible on the gift.
Make a difference together
The Wish Tree campaign at St. Peter's Church is not the only way to do good. The Stiftung Buntes Herz has also considered a similar campaign at Christmas time, in which the wishes of needy children and young people are fulfilled. Wish trees are set up in local shops and establishments where supporters can select cards with their wishes. Alternatively, you can donate online, with the foundation taking care of purchasing the gifts. All gifts will be handed over to the affected families in time for Christmas and are intended to be a ray of hope in the dark season.
After all, Christmas is a time of giving and charity. As 24 Good Deeds describes, there are numerous ways to help others, be it through local actions or international projects. Charitable organizations in particular welcome donations in kind and money to support people in need. Whether through neighborhood initiatives, donating donations or volunteering in soup kitchens, everyone can help spread the festive spirit of Christmas.
