Experience Bundeswehr Day: action and insights into Neubrandenburg!
On June 28, 2025 it will be that time again: The Bundeswehr will open its doors throughout Germany for the “Bundeswehr Day” campaign day. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the cities of Neubrandenburg and Stralsund have dressed up to offer visitors an exciting insight into the world of the Bundeswehr. Under the motto “We are here”, numerous activities and demonstrations are offered that highlight both military and civilian aspects.
The focus is on the Tollensekaserne in Neubrandenburg, the main venue for the day of action. Here, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., visitors can not only marvel at Bundeswehr vehicles, but also ride in a tank. A realistic combat demonstration by the Panzergrenadier Brigade 41 ensures thrilling action. There are also overflights by Eurofighters, maritime patrol aircraft and transport aircraft from the Air Force, which provide an extra tingling sensation in the stomach.
A program full of highlights
The welcome is given by brigade commander Ralf Peter Hammerstein at 10 a.m. Afterwards, assault demonstrations by the Panzergrenadiers are on the program, which take place at 10:30 a.m., 2 and 3:30 p.m. At 12 p.m., Federal Defense Minister Boris Pistorius will give a speech in which he invites people to interact with soldiers and civilian employees. The musical background is also not neglected: the Neubrandenburg Army Music Corps will perform on the market square at 1:30 p.m.
Interested visitors over the age of 18 have the opportunity to experience rides in combat vehicles and on the shooting training simulator. In addition, a variety of weapons will be on display, from light to heavy weapons systems. The Navy in Stralsund also opens its doors and presents a ceremony at the Naval Technology School, at which recruits take their solemn vows. Security is a top priority: security gates with controls are set up at the entrance and visitors should avoid backpacks and bags.
A day full of diversity and interaction
The idea behind “Bundeswehr Day” is not only to present military capabilities, but also to strengthen the relationship between society and the armed forces. The event takes place annually in the third decade of June and offers numerous opportunities for participation and dialogue through interactive tours, live demonstrations and information stands. Last year, the day of action attracted around 230,000 visitors nationwide, and those responsible hope to ignite the enthusiasm again this year.
Particularly worth mentioning is the long-standing contact between Neubrandenburg and the Bundeswehr, which has existed since 2014 and will be renewed in 2024. The city was also awarded the “Bundeswehr and Society Prize” in 2021, which underlines the good relationship with the Bundeswehr. The Panzergrenadier Brigade 41, founded in 1991, has proven itself not only domestically but also in international operations and is currently preparing for a deployment on the NATO eastern border in Lithuania.
If you don't want to miss these impressive insights and experiences, you should definitely come to the Tollensekaserne or Stralsund on June 28th. The free parking spaces, easy access by public transport and an extensive program promise a day on which everyone can take something for themselves - a real celebration of the Bundeswehr and its connection to society.
