Horror vacation on Usedom: Dishwasher sets holiday apartment on fire!

An unforgettable vacation on the island of Usedom took a dramatic turn for some travelers on Saturday evening, June 28th. A fire broke out in a holiday apartment in Loddin, which was caused by a dishwasher that caught fire during operation. Fortunately, the holidaymakers were able to get to safety in time, but the holiday apartment is now uninhabitable. The damage is estimated at around 50,000 euros Baltic Sea newspaper reported.

The fire was reported to the operations control center of the Neubrandenburg police headquarters at around 7:30 p.m. The alerted volunteer fire departments from Loddin and Ückeritz were on site with a total of 14 personnel. Fortunately, the fire was extinguished before the police arrived. The guests in the affected holiday apartment tried to fight the fire themselves, but ultimately this was not enough to prevent the damage. All holidaymakers were accommodated in other accommodation.

Technical defects as the cause of the fire

The reason for the fire breaking out is probably a technical defect in the dishwasher. Causes of fires caused by such kitchen appliances are by no means an isolated case. According to the Fire protection headquarters Fire-hazardous work and technical defects are among the most common causes of fire in households. Consumers should always be aware of the potential dangers that older devices can pose.

It's not the first time that a dishwasher has caused problems in a living area. For example, there was recently a suspected fire in Wels-Lichtenegg due to a defective dishwasher that gave off a burning smell but did not burst into flames. The fire department also did a good job there and was able to quickly get the defective device outside WT1 reported.

Protective measures and caution

In view of such incidents, it is advisable to always exercise a certain degree of caution when handling electrical devices. Older models in particular can cause unexpected problems and pose a certain risk. It is particularly recommended to have fire-hazardous work carried out by trained personnel in order to minimize the risk of fire. The same applies to the use of hobby equipment such as hot glue guns or soldering irons - these can also quickly become a cause of fire if handled improperly.

Overall, this incident shows how important it is to regularly check your home for potential sources of danger and replace devices if necessary. We wish all holidaymakers on Usedom a continued safe and relaxing time.
