Emotional farewell: Funeral service for Fabian (8) in Güstrow
The funeral service for the tragically deceased Fabian will take place on Thursday, October 30th at 5:30 p.m. The location of the event is the Güstrow parish church, where a large number of mourners are expected. Since the last memorial service was no longer able to sufficiently cover the capacity limits of 550 seats, this time the service will also be broadcast outside on the south side of the church. Technical arrangements have already been made with a local company to overcome this challenge.
Pastor Jens-Peter Schulz put together a touching music playlist in consultation with Fabian's family. The organ will play pieces from the rock and pop genres, including “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen and “Tears in Heaven” by Eric Clapton. The musical contributions are intended to provide space for grief and reflection and create an atmosphere of compassion.
A place of togetherness
The service will be opened by Vicar Tim Trabe, who will address the topic of the resurrection in a sensitive sermon. The focus will be on the question of why, supported by texts from people who have expressed their sympathy. Mayor Sascha Zimmermann will also offer a few words of thanks, and the family has asked the volunteers to be duly recognized.
Visitors also have the opportunity to write down their thoughts and wishes for Fabian or his family on prepared pieces of paper. Around 400 ballpoint pens are available to encourage the creativity of the mourners. These pieces of paper are collected at the exit and given to the family - a small but meaningful act of compassion.
Feelings and memories
Grief is a very personal process that takes time. Even if the days are full of sadness, you can try to keep the good memories of Fabian alive. Maybe you create a special box in which you put symbols or memorabilia that represent beautiful moments. This maintains a physical connection to Fabian and promotes memory.
Expressing feelings, whether through conversation, pictures or music, can support the grieving process. Aside from that, nature can be a wonderful retreat to find moments of silence and reflection. Walks outside not only offer peace, but also the opportunity to process your own grief and find comfort.
It's important to give yourself permission to grieve and accept support from friends or professionals. These things promote the healing process and help you find inner peace. Ultimately, grief connects people and invites community, which often provides unexpected strength in difficult times.
For those who are unable to attend in person, the service will also be programmed and broadcast live via the church. So everyone who knew and loved Fabian can become part of this emotional farewell.
We would like to extend a warm invitation to guests to gather in the parish church on October 30th to mourn, remember and pay respect together - for a young person whose life ended far too soon.
