Rostock district transfers Güstrow workshops to Diakonie Güstrow
A significant change is emerging in the Rostock district. The district plans to transfer its shares in Güstrower Werkstätten gGmbH to the Diakonischer Verein Güstrow. This is scheduled to happen on January 1, 2026, although the approval of the district council is still required. To date, the Güstrow workshops belong to both the district and the Diakonisches Werk Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, which underlines the cooperation between the two institutions. Northern Courier reports that the workshops currently look after up to 900 people in the Rostock district.
Henrike Regenstein, the chairwoman of the Diakonisches Werk MV, assures that nothing will change for the employees as a result of this transfer. All current offerings should not only remain in place, but also be further developed. The long-term goals of the transfer include the sustainable and efficient design of social offerings in the district, especially given the tight financial situation of the municipalities.
Strengthening collaboration
The upcoming transfer of the shareholder shares is not only an important step for the Güstrower Werkstätten, but also a sign of the long-standing and proven cooperation between Diakonie Güstrow and the Güstrower Werkstätten. How Diakonie MV emphasizes, the Diakonische Verein Güstrow will in future be responsible for the workshops as a partner together with the Diakonisches Werk Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
Another key aspect of the transfer is the possible use of synergies and shared resources in the areas of administration, education and care. This strategy is intended to help strengthen diaconal work in the Rostock district and make the offers even more attractive for customers and clients. The Rostock district supports this step, which underlines the importance of the Güstrow workshops in the region.
A look into history
Güstrower Werkstätten gGmbH was founded on January 1, 1993. They were created through the merger of several rehabilitation workshops that previously worked separately. To date, the company has expanded to 24 locations and employs around 270 people who look after the needs of the 900 people it supports. A day care center in Teterow was opened in 2009, and in 2017 the laundries from Güstrow and Teterow were merged.
There are also interesting educational opportunities in the region for anyone interested. The Diaconal Education Center offers further training and further education opportunities, including training to become a state-recognized educator and state-certified social assistant. These educational offers could be important for many employees and their further development in the Güstrow workshops.
All in all, the Rostock district is facing an exciting development that will have a lasting impact on both the social landscape and the educational offerings in the region.
