Fabian murder case: Another search yields no results – suspects in custody!
There has been sad news again in recent days in the murder of eight-year-old Fabian, which shocked the entire region. On December 4th, 2025, 22 police officers again visited the area around the pond near Klein Upahl where the boy's body was discovered on October 14th, 2025. However, this comprehensive search for clues, which involved the use of metal detectors and brush cutters, did not yield any new information. No further evidence was found.
Investigators focused their search on the area where the boy was found. The officers were able to secure a possible piece of evidence in the form of a black and red piece of fabric, as Merkur reports. Despite the intensive efforts, the case remains a mystery for the police and the relatives: the Rostock public prosecutor's office has written down almost 1,000 clues that still have to be evaluated. Senior public prosecutor Harald Nowak confirmed that no new evidence had emerged that was directly related to the case.
The suspect and the status of the investigation
At the center of the investigation is Fabian's father's former girlfriend, who has been in custody since November 7, 2025. An arrest warrant against her was confirmed by the Rostock district court on December 3, 2025. Your public defender plans to appeal this arrest warrant to the next higher court because he argues that there is a lack of solid evidence. Fabian's mother's lawyer is optimistic and expects the suspect to be charged soon because there is strong suspicion of the crime.
Particularly noteworthy is the statement of a witness who stated that he had seen the boy's body before the police arrived. This information could potentially bring new twists to the ongoing investigation and bring additional tension to a case that has been in the public eye for weeks. The Güstrow case raises questions not only about the circumstances of his death, but also about the growing youth crime in Germany, which, according to Statista, rose to a peak of around 13,800 cases in 2024.
A look at juvenile crime
The current discussion about juvenile crime is given new urgency by this tragic incident. In particular, the increasing number of perpetrators under the age of 18, which rose to over 13,800 cases in 2024, is viewed critically. While the number of young suspects overall is falling by around 6 percent, the proportion of male perpetrators remains alarmingly high. The Federal Criminal Police Office cites psychological stress and risk factors as possible reasons for this increase.
Meanwhile, the call for more effective measures to prevent youth violence remains on the agenda. To ensure that tragedies like the one in Fabian's case do not happen again, a strong focus is placed on support through youth welfare and the creation of safe environments for children, as also highlighted by NDR.
