Fabian murder case: Güstrow public prosecutor's office is in the dark!

A shocking incident is currently affecting the community of Güstrow and beyond: eight-year-old Fabian was found dead on October 14, 2025. The Homicide Unit is investigating a premeditated homicide, and the details surrounding this case are both tragic and alarming.

The boy's body was discovered by a walker near a forest near Klein Upahl. The forensic medical examination revealed the effects of violence. Forensic doctor Fred Zack from Güstrow explained that an autopsy was carried out on October 15th to determine the exact cause of death. This can only be clarified through an examination in which blood or urine analyzes are also used. As of October 23, however, there was no suspect and police suspect foul play.

Investigations are in full swing

The investigation appears to be in full swing, but for tactical reasons there is hardly any information from the public prosecutor's office. Fred Zack warns that speculation could harm the investigative work. In the search for a possible suspect, a farm in Zehna and a waste disposal company were excavated, among other things, with the emergency services even wearing protective suits.

The question of how to solve such crimes also concerns the public, especially in a country where trends in crime are difficult to assess. According to the Police Crime Statistics (PKS) from the Federal Criminal Police Office, there was a decrease of 1.7% to around 5.84 million crimes in 2024. The decline is primarily due to fewer cannabis offenses due to partial legalization since April 2024. However, people's sense of security remains severely impaired by crimes against personal freedom and other attacks.

Background to crime

A look at crime statistics also shows that crimes against life, such as murder and manslaughter, only account for 0.1% of cases. However, there is growing concern about security issues in urban areas. In city states like Bremen, Berlin or Hamburg, the likelihood of becoming a victim of crime is higher than in more rural areas. A worrying trend is the increase in non-German suspects to 41.8%.

The investigation into the Fabian case remains in focus and the public hopes for an early resolution as the police work tirelessly to shed light on this terrible matter. A DNA test to identify the victim is seen as an essential step in making further progress. Fred Zack highlights that a stranger's DNA could be a major investigative success and everyone is currently waiting for the next step in this ominous case.
