Spectacular world record attempt: Largest fish can on Usedom opened!
On Saturday, November 8th, things will be particularly exciting on the island of Usedom: restaurateur André Domke is planning a spectacular world record attempt here, during which the largest can of fish in the world will be opened. This was done by the Baltic Sea newspaper reported. The event takes place at 2 p.m. at Domke's Fish Pavilion on Friedenstrasse and attracts numerous celebrities, including boxing legends such as Axel Schulz and Ulli Wegner as well as trainer Arthur Abraham.
The fish can, with dimensions corresponding to a single bed (approx. 1 meter wide, 2 meters long, 60 cm high), will be filled with about 80 kilos of sprats in oil. Domke describes sprats as a “superfood” and emphasizes the regional value of the fish. What could be better than doing something for your health with a good piece of fish? This campaign is not only intended to break the record, but also to draw attention to the importance of the fishing industry in Germany.
A big day for the visitors
Guests have the opportunity to purchase small portions from the can, with the proceeds going to the Greifswald Children's Hospice Association. “It’s not just about the record, but also about a good cause,” explains Domke. The restaurateur, who was named “Entrepreneur of the Year” in 2024, is sending a clear signal for Usedom with this world record attempt. The motto of the event is to promote the island in the off-season and to attract even more tourists, especially at times when things are often a little quieter.
Domke is not unknown in the world of records: he has already set several world records on Usedom, including the largest brawn fish and fish solyanka. Raik Welenga from Frankfurt (Oder) was hired to build the impressive can, and his mastery was certainly put to the test. “The biggest challenge was finding a craftsman who could actually make such a large can,” says Domke.
Great anticipation of the world record
The event on November 8th promises not only fun, but also a real spectacle. Agriculture Minister Till Backhaus has also announced his coming, and the organizers are expecting a large number of spectators. After the world record attempt, the fish can could even serve as a photo spot or be used as an exhibit.
In today's fast-paced world, when it's often about standing out from the crowd, this event stands out in a very special way. The Northern Courier points out that the event is not only a record attempt, but also promotes entrepreneurship and community spirit. Usedom offers a stage that will radiate far beyond the island's borders.
The team around André Domke planned this event with a lot of enthusiasm and a good knack for promotion. For all fish lovers and fans of extraordinary challenges, this is an absolute must. Get ready for an afternoon full of enjoyment, fun and maybe even the next world record on Usedom!
