Mulled Wine Cup 2025: Hornkaten Fire Department celebrates 90 years with fireworks!

There was once again a lot going on in Hornkaten last weekend. The mulled wine cup 2025 was held and the Lewitz team prevailed with flying colors and took first place. The competition was important not only because of the exciting competitions, but also because of the sociable atmosphere that promoted camaraderie between the participating fire departments. This cup has been held for over 15 years and forms a ceremonial end to the competition year, he says Northern Courier.

A total of eleven teams, including a women's team, competed against each other. The participants presented themselves in their old green fire suits while using portable pumps from the GDR era. New this year was that the fire departments had to bring their own pumps, which added to the challenge. The weather showed its capricious side during the competition, but the enthusiasm of the participants was unbroken.

Results and celebrations

The men from Kummer were happy about second place, while the hosts from Hornkaten took fifth place. Following the final runs and the award ceremony, an impressive fireworks display took place. The Hornkaten fire department, which is celebrating its 90th anniversary on November 21st, currently has 23 active members and four honorary members and was able to properly host the event.

The mulled wine cup is not only seen as a sporting challenge, but also as a community celebration where fun and conviviality are the focus. Despite the adverse weather conditions, there was a large crowd and those present could look forward to an entertaining event that strengthens solidarity and creates new friendships.

A successful event that once again proved that the fire brigades are not only there to put out fires, but also have a good hand in sporting competition. If the weather cooperates, next year's festival could be even bigger! So let’s look forward to the next competitions that are already in the pipeline.
