St. Hubertus Mass in Banzkow: Celebrate with hunting horns and faith!
In the picturesque Schwerin region, the Hubertus masses are just around the corner - a tradition that makes the hearts of hunters beat faster. The first mass will be celebrated on November 2nd in the Ludwigsluster town church at 4 p.m. Accompanied musically by the hunting horn brass group “Hubertus”, it will underline the special flair of this time of year. The Hubertus Mass looks back on a long history: it has been celebrated in its current form since the 19th century and honors Saint Hubertus of Liège, the patron saint of hunters.
The special character of these services is reflected in the impressive hunting horn signals that fill the room instead of organ music. Fir branches and a connection between nature, hunting and faith characterize these festive celebrations. The next Hubertus Mass will take place on November 8th at 5 p.m. in the Paulskirche Schwerin, with wind instruments from all over Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania enriching the event. Another highlight will follow on November 9th in the church of Banzkow at 10 a.m., where the hunting horn group “Waidmannsheil” will perform together with the Junior Band Lübz. Afterwards there will be a lunch snack for all participants.
Experience tradition and community
The St. Hubertus Mass is more than just a religious event; it is a social gathering. Old friends and acquaintances meet to express their passion for hunting and nature. As with the Hubertus Mass in Seehausen, which was celebrated by Pastor Schindele to ask for blessings for the local nature and wild animals, the spirit of togetherness is also reflected in Schwerin.
The musical performance is provided by hunting horn players who perform traditional pieces and new compositions. This is also practiced by the Loisachtaler Jagdhornbläser in Seehausen, where they present various pieces of music, including newer works for wind groups.
A look into the future
These Hubertus masses not only bring tradition and faith together, but also ensure that awareness of the importance of hunting and the preservation of nature is raised. At a time when contact with nature is becoming less and less, such events are necessary and valuable. The joy of celebrating together, the memory of old customs and the reflection on protecting nature are aspects that make the Hubertus Mass an indispensable part of regional culture.
Be part of this beautiful tradition and experience how centuries-old customs are still alive today. Further information about the Hubertus Fairs can be found at Nordkurier or Jagd GAPA.
