A very special exhibition will open its doors in the Neubrandenburg Art Collection from June 22nd to September 7th: “The Great Schwof. Celebrating celebrations in the East”. The show promises an exciting insight into everyday culture in the GDR in advance and shows how people celebrated in the 80s. Over 250 photographs come to life here, all under the skillful curation of Petra Göllnitz. This is the last stop of the exhibition, which was previously shown in Jena, Brandenburg and Rostock.
“The Big Schwof” depicts the colorful side of life in the GDR. Visitors can expect not only snapshots of village festivals, punk parties, carnivals and pageants, but also insights into the social life of East Germans. Many of the photographs come from graduates of the Leipzig University of Graphics and Book Arts, who often worked without permanent employment.
