The big Schwof: Experience GDR festivals up close in Neubrandenburg!

In the Kunstskammel Neubrandenburg, a very special exhibition will open your gates from June 22nd to September 7th: "The great Schwof. Celebrate in the east". The show promises an exciting insight into the everyday culture of the GDR in advance and shows how people celebrated in the 1980s. Over 250 photographs wake up to life here, all under the skillful curating of Petra Göllnitz. This is the last stop of the exhibition, which was previously seen in Jena, Brandenburg and Rostock.

"The Great Schwof" represents the colorful sides of life in the GDR. Visitors not only expect snapshots of village festivals, punk parties, carnival and miss elections, but also insights into the sociable coexistence of East Germans. Many of the photographs come from graduates from the Leipzig University of Graphics and Book Art, who often worked without a permanent position. As reports nordkurier.de, the pictures are a real quantum leap away from the clichés that often surround life in the GDR. Visitors from the old federal states are always surprised by this other perspective.

insights and accompanying program

But that's not all: an extensive accompanying program is waiting to be discovered. This includes informative discussions and tours that cover various topics, including erotic and punk in the GDR. Göllnitz himself emphasizes that celebrations were a valve and expression of social life. This is impressively documented by the photographs.

A special note: The exhibition also attracts younger generations, including high school classes that warm up for the history of their region.

artists and photographers

Göllnitz brought together more than 31 photographers from the GDR, including well -known artists such as Sibylle Bergemann and Roger Melis. These photographs take the viewer into a world full of emotions and memories.

"The big Schwof" is not just an exhibition; It is also a place of exchange and understanding. The pictures tell stories of cohesion and joy that invite you to think about how people deal with each other despite all the adversities. According to Auf-nach-mv.de, the exhibition relies on the attention, preservation and distribution of these valuable photographs that show the GDR in a new light.

The Kunstskammel Neubrandenburg has created a real highlight with this show that will appeal to those interested in culture and who are like to culture. So nothing like there - the doors to the interesting past will soon be open!
