Football fever: The first state cup games are approaching!

On July 16, 2025, things will be exciting in football in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, because the first round of the Lübzer Pils State Cup is imminent. The draw, which took place on Wednesday at the MV State Football Association, produced some interesting pairings. Spectators can look forward to an exciting knockout tournament that brings together the clubs from the 3rd league down as well as representatives from the six district associations. But here too there is an important rule to note: lower-class teams enjoy home rights until the semi-finals.

In a successful combination of regional flair and sporting competition, some well-known names meet in the first round. Greifswalder FC opens the tournament with a home game against PSV Ribnitz/Damgarten. A little later, SSC and FC Mecklenburg face each other in the city derby in Schwerin - a real treat for the fans.

The winner will also have the chance to prove themselves in the first round of the DFB Cup, this year on the 16th/17th. August will be played against TSG Hoffenheim – a real challenge!

One of the fixed regulations for the Lübzer Pils State Cup is the orderly division of the matches into East and West in this first round in order to minimize travel times for the teams. However, from the second round onwards, this regulation will no longer apply. Does this mode also increase the tension? The next few weeks will show that.
