The author, who returned to Neubrandenburg after two decades in cities such as Marburg, Tübingen, Düsseldorf and Berlin, opens a chapter of his past and present in his latest article. How Northern Courier reports that the returnee not only made new friends and professional successes in Berlin, but also had his first sobering experience with club life. He was not allowed entry into the famous Berghain, one of the most famous techno clubs in the world, because his clothing was “too normal”. This experience was decisive in his decision to turn his back on the vibrant city, not least because of his obligations as a father of small children.

Friends outside Neubrandenburg were skeptical of his return and made cynical comments, often with only limited knowledge of the changes the city has undergone. The new gastronomic offerings, from restaurants to cafés, report a lively culture and a diverse range of leisure activities.
