Care in Neubrandenburg: Urgent support for seniors wanted!
In Neubrandenburg, the future of care looks very different than it did a few years ago. The proportion of older people is increasing every year - today one in five people is over 70 and one in three is over 60. The need for care services is therefore obvious and the need for support in everyday life is increasing rapidly. In this context, local outpatient services, such as Vitanas Ambulant, founded in 2014, are becoming increasingly important in order to meet the needs of the population. Julia Just, the new site manager of the nursing service, calls for her facility to still have capacity and be prepared to actively use it. “svz.de” reports that the outpatient nursing service is not only responsible for caring for clients, but also incorporates many interpersonal aspects into daily care.
The increasing demand for care services is not just a local problem. Nationwide, the number of people in need of care is increasing rapidly. According to current statistics, there were already around 5.7 million people in need of care at the end of 2023. This results in a clear forecast: by 2055 there could even be around 6.8 million. A look at the numbers reveals that the majority of those affected are older than 60. Interestingly, the number of people in need of care has doubled in the past ten years, highlighting the urgency of reforms and new solutions in care. “statista.com” also uses figures that show that the diverse demands on care in Germany are constantly increasing and do not stop at Neubrandenburg.
The change in care
Julia Just is not only an experienced nurse, but also has an academic background in health sciences. After her previous work in a retirement home in Neubrandenburg, she would like to drive the growth of her current nursing service and continue the positive developments of her predecessor. The service provides a variety of support services: from food preparation and personal hygiene to medication administration and wound care. “The highlight of the day for our clients is often the conversations and personal contact,” emphasizes Just.
Despite the positive developments, there are also challenges. It is not always easy for caregivers to accommodate the individual needs of clients within a tight schedule. It is often the relatives who support those in need of care, but many of them often cannot cover the entire spectrum. Services like Vitanas try to close this gap. “The collection of data on the number and quality of nursing services is crucial in order to make future-oriented decisions,” emphasizes a survey by the Federal Statistical Office, which is essential for planning the nursing care structure.
The look into the future
While the need for outpatient care is constantly growing, the future prospects for the care sector in Germany look promising. In addition to the existing 15,549 outpatient care services, the 16,505 nursing homes are also in greater demand than ever. Particular attention is required to train and recruit skilled workers in geriatric care, who, with over 1.26 million employees, also make a significant contribution to the quality of care. But despite the positive developments, the forecast shows that the challenges in care will not be minor. “There is something going on” – that is certain, and it will be exciting to see how activities in geriatric care will develop in the coming years.
