High into the art world: The German Dance Company Neustrelitz is back and is bringing a breath of fresh air to the Neubrandenburg Theater. The remarkable dance allegory “LUFT” celebrates its premiere on November 15th at 7:30 p.m. As Strelitzius reports, the piece will address the essential, often unconscious meaning of the air we breathe.
The symbolism of air couldn't be more apt. It not only represents freedom, detachment and lightness of being, but also as a crucial mediator between the elements and sometimes even as a destroyer. Through gentle and powerful movements, the dancers will bring the audience closer to the interaction between humans and nature and show the invisible forces that shape our lives.
A turbulent year for the dance company
The German dance company Neustrelitz has made a remarkable comeback after months of uncertainty about its future. Thanks to the support of Culture Minister Bettina Martin and a newly agreed financing model with the state and local authorities, the company can finally breathe a sigh of relief. A total of 90 to 100 performances are planned for the new season, which is slightly fewer than the 102 performances of the last season with 38,000 spectators, but still gives a lot of hope for the coming months, as NDR reports.
The first highlight will be a dance night next Saturday in the courtyard of the German dance company. A festival weekend for dance in Neustrelitz is also being planned, which will open on September 27th with a gala in the Landestheater, at which ensembles from Greifswald, Rostock and Schwerin will perform. But that's not all: the performance “Air” will be staged a total of seven times until August.
A look into the future
And it continues! The premiere of the next part of the element cycle, “Earth”, is already scheduled for April 18, 2026. This is choreographed by the creatives Monica Proenca and Emil Faski. The schedule also includes other premieres such as “The Little Prince” and “Genesis – the First Chapter”, which will premiere on June 6, 2026.
Securing funding for the dance company is a real chapter of success for the region. With annual support of 500,000 euros from the state's strategy fund, which expires at the end of 2025, managing director Marco Zabel will soon have to seek follow-up financing. Culture Minister Martin impressively underlined the relevance of this company for the region.
