Dementia and missing persons

People with dementia often run away unintentionally because they have difficulty keeping track of their familiar surroundings.
Dr. Ursula Sottong, head of the Maltese Dementia Unit, explains that these people no longer recognize familiar paths and places and can even get lost in their own home.
