Smart waterway: We Fritzing strokes trips to the Lieps!

In the Lieps nature reserve, the lineship "Uns Fritzing" is the name of this season: stop! Due to a significant sludge in the connecting channel between the Tollensesee and the Lieps, the trips must be set. The Neubrandenburg transport companies decided against the use of the severely impaired route, although the approval was available for this. This was shared by the SVZ with.

Already towards the end of last season there were technical difficulties that were due to the poor condition of the canal. Despite these problems, the schedule of the ship "Uns Fritzing" remains unchanged: it runs on Wednesday to Sunday twice a day from 10.30 a.m. and 2 p.m. from the investor at the bathhouse. Stops such as the water sports center, Gatsch Eck and Klein Nemerow have continued to come, while the stop in Prillwitz is no longer necessary. On Mondays and Tuesdays the ship remains in the port.

Another choice for nature lovers

For everyone who still wants to visit the nature reserve, there is the opportunity to drive on the Lieps with the "Mudder Schulten". This first trip will take place on July 1 at 10 a.m., followed by another at 3 p.m. Captain Eckhard Lüdemann plans to maintain the trips despite the critical situation in the connecting channel. His "Mudder Schulten" only has a depth of 90 centimeters with full loading and no keel, which makes it easier to pass through. These properties enable the ship to maneuver quickly through the muddy passages, while it leads its passengers through a paradise for geese, sea eagle and kingfishers.

However, Lüdemann also expresses concerns about the water levels: "Another decline could severely affect our trips," said the experienced captain, who has been working on the Tollensesee since 1978 and has been running the "Mudder Schulten" since 1983. If the water continues to decrease, a reduction in the number of passengers could be necessary in order not to endanger the historic ship.

weaknesses and challenges of the waterways

The situation in Neubrandenburg is not only important locally. The condition of the inland waters in Germany is a big topic. According to Environmental Bundesamt , around 90 percent of the federal waterways are changed as structurally changed. These challenges affect shipping significantly, especially with regard to climate change, which makes extreme low water events a new normality. Measures to renaturate the rivers and floodplains are urgently needed to ensure the traffic routes for the future.

The planned sludge of the connecting channel between Tollensesee and Lieps, originally set for last year, was postponed to 2026 due to environmental and cost reasons. The city of Neubrandenburg plans to manage additional costs through funding or through cooperation. Therefore, the situation remains tense, and it remains to be hoped that both the "Mudder Schulten" and the "us Fritzing" will soon be able to resume their trips to the usual extent.

With a mixture of commitment and patience, residents and ship lovers hope for an early improvement in the water situation and the return to the usual shipping in the nature reserve.
