Forest dwellers decorate concrete wall at Tollensesee – art against graffiti!
In a remarkable initiative, the Neubrandenburg Community Foundation and the city administration have jointly designed a concrete wall on the beautiful Tollensesee. This 22-meter-long wall, located below the Belvedere viewpoint, was decorated with forest creatures in vibrant colors by talented street artist Denny Hagenau, including foxes, deer and owls. The campaign is part of a project launched by city forester Carsten Düde to counteract the increase in illegal graffiti. Denny Hagenau made a statement with his art - and at the same time brought nature into the cityscape, which was well received based on feedback from passers-by.
The community foundation has provided a total of 3,000 euros for this creative art campaign. The chairman of the board, Wilfried Holze, is delighted with the result of the collaboration and the positive response from the population. It is now hoped that the wall will be protected from further graffiti by an unwritten code of honor, said Deputy Mayor Peter Modemann.
Art and community in focus
At a glance: What awaits the people of Neubrandenburg in the coming years? The community foundation has already formulated plans for a street art festival in 2027 on the tenth anniversary of its founding. The festival is intended to be another step to promote the local art scene and attract more people. Such events have shown in the past that they have a good knack for community building and bring little treasures of creativity to light.
The design of the wall is not only a work of art, but also an act of upgrading urban space, which seems more urgent than ever these days. The people of Neubrandenburg can look forward to further creative projects that will make the cityscape more lively. At a time when urban life is often problematic, Neubrandenburg sent a clear signal for beautification and community.
Overall, this project shows how art and citizen engagement can go hand in hand to bring a piece of nature and quality of life back to the city. The Tollensesee, which already attracts many visitors, has a further attraction with the decorated wall, which makes the hearts of Neubrandenburgers beat faster.
