CDU nominates Alexander Leetz as mayoral candidate for Lübz

On September 11, 2025, the CDU community association Eldenburg-Lübz nominated a new mayoral candidate for the upcoming election on June 7, 2026: Alexander Leetz. With an impressive 91.7 percent of the votes cast, the 42-year-old clearly prevailed. Leetz is a native of Lübz and the father of five children, which underlines his connection to the region.

From a business perspective, the candidate knows how to lead a team, as he already has this role as sales manager at Stadtwerke Ludwigslust-Grabow. He has also been volunteering as mayor of the municipality of Kreien since 2017 and has held the role of deputy chairman of the Eldenburg-Lübz district committee since 2019. Alexander Leetz is also the coach of the F-youth of the Lübzer sports club and thus shows his passion for youth development and club life.

Political visions

In his nomination speech, Leetz emphasized the need to take responsibility and actively participate in the development of the region. His political focus is on strengthening and relocating commercial companies and promoting active club life. In addition, the candidate is committed to a modern, digitalized and citizen-oriented administration.

This breath of fresh air in local politics comes at an important time, because the local elections in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, which took place on June 10, 2024, already showed how much citizens value local participation. In this context, Steffen Rißmann received 58.1 percent of the votes - a sign that elections are important and are taken seriously.

A look at the electoral landscape

Not only are the mayoral elections coming up, the district council and city council elections will also take place in many cities and municipalities in the coming months. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, both city council and local council members are elected in almost all towns and communities within the district. Voters in independent cities have the opportunity to elect their mayor.

At a time when local democracy plays a central role for the community, Alexander Leetz's nomination brings fresh momentum and new perspectives to the city of Lübz. It remains exciting to see how the election campaign will develop and what other issues will concern citizens and politicians in the coming months.
