In the city of Hagenow, in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district, there is exciting news for the “Am Mühlenteich” city school. The city has announced a comprehensive renovation of the schoolyard. Many measures are planned to make the schoolyard both functional and attractive.
An important element of the modernization is the rainwater system, which will ensure the safe drainage of excess water. In addition, new play areas with child-friendly play equipment and a small sports field are being created, which offer the students a wide range of opportunities for active leisure activities. A very special highlight will be the “Green Classroom”, which will be equipped with comfortable seating. Here, students can enjoy outdoor lessons and experience nature at the same time.
Green instead of gray
The project aims to transform the schoolyard from gray asphalt surfaces into a vibrant, green space. The aim is to create an environment that not only promotes learning, but also wellbeing. Schools should be more than just educational institutions - they should be places that support the development of children and young people, as is the initiative IKEA Foundation, which supports such projects. These initiatives offer students the opportunity to gain experience with nature, the environment and sustainability.
The planned redesigns in Hagenow also include the planting of hedges and trees. These help create shade and a more pleasant microclimate in the schoolyard. In addition, the old wall and the fence along the mill pond will be replaced. This improves both the safety and aesthetics of the school grounds.
