Parchimer Hospital: Celebrating 120 years of serving people!
The Parchim Hospital is celebrating a very special anniversary this year: the clinic was ceremoniously inaugurated 120 years ago. To mark this milestone birthday, there was an open day to which not only the city's residents were invited, but also current and former employees who experienced the history and development of the house. This day of celebration provided a wonderful opportunity to discuss the important milestones and the important role the hospital plays in the region, such as Northern Courier reported.
In his speech, Mayor Dirk Flörke acknowledged the immense importance of the hospital, which has helped countless people in the area since its founding. The clinic was founded on an initiative by Anna Heucke, who died of tuberculosis in 1895. Her wish was to use her inheritance of 10,000 Reichsmarks to convert the villa on Wockersee into a hospital. This old villa remains the heart of the clinic today, which has since been expanded several times to meet the growing needs of the population.
A long tradition
Since 1996, the clinic has belonged to the Asklepios Group, one of the largest hospital operators in Germany. The takeover took place in the wake of the political change and was part of a comprehensive plan to renovate and modernize the house. In his remarks, District Administrator Stefan Sternberg emphasized how important solid emergency care is in rural areas like Parchim. Here in particular, it is crucial to create modern structures and train young medical talent in order to keep skilled workers in the region in the long term. On average, specialist training graduates are between 35 and 40 years old.
But that's not all: Dr. Dierk Werner, the medical director, advocates including regional factors in hospital reforms. He wants there to be an open dialogue about the best possible health care in the district. Dr. also expressed the same wish. Sara Sheikhzadeh, CMO of Asklepios Kliniken Hamburg, who emphasized the importance of regional clinics, especially in difficult times.
Contribution to hospital history
The history of hospitals is an important topic, which is not only relevant in Parchim. From 2024, the publishing house De Gruyter will take over the publication Historia Hospitalium, which deals with the history of hospitals. Since 1966, this magazine has published specialist articles that shed light on everything to do with hospital history, from literature reports to event information. It's worth taking a look at the outstanding content published in previous editions.
In an area that is constantly changing, the Parchimer Hospital with its long tradition remains an important foundation of medical care in the region and a source of well-being for many.
