Schwerin in the railway jam: from August massive closures and diversions!
From August 1, 2025, there will be extensive restrictions on the Hamburg-Berlin railway line. As part of a general renovation, this traffic route will be completely blocked by April 30, 2026. This means that a whole year is all about construction sites and diversions, which presents travelers and commuters with great challenges. [Stern] reports that the work of the renovation leads to an additional blocking of the Schwerin railway node, which will come into force from August 1, 9:00 p.m., until 4th, 3:00 a.m.
of these railway nodes is a central point in the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania rail network and enables the connection in numerous directions. Because of the construction work, the regional railway line RB17, which leads from Wismar via Schwerin to Ludwigslust, will only be able to drive to the Schwerin Süd stop. Commuters can also adjust to some changes: the special train RE85, which runs from Schwerin via Bad Kleinen and Güstrow to Berlin, is replaced by buses during the closure between Schwerin Hauptbahnhof and Bad Kleinen. If you want to use the RB13 from Rehna to Parchim to Parchim, you also have to expect busuits because the connection between Rehna and Plate cannot be operated.
Details on the renovation and timetable changes
The renovation is accompanied by additional bus connections to compensate for the eliminating train connections. Up to 173 buses are planned every day, which will cover a distance of up to 86,000 kilometers on 26 lines. The buses are barrier -free and offer amenities such as WLAN and sockets. The contract for this replacement traffic goes to the Ecovista company. [NDR] recommends carpooling as a sensible alternative for commuters who will be particularly affected on weekends.
In addition, long -distance trains between Hamburg and Berlin are diverted via Uelzen and Stendal. This means that stops in Büchen, Ludwigslust and Wittenberge are eliminated, while additional holding in Salzwedel and Stendal are offered. Travelers have to prepare for longer travel times that are extended on average by 45 minutes.
Marcel Drews, the chairman of Pro Bahn in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, is surprised by this uncoordinated measure and points out that commuters in particular will suffer from these changes. "There is something," he says, and makes it clear that the situation becomes particularly delicate for many travelers on weekends.
Overall, the renovation of the railway line is an important step for the future of the transport infrastructure in the region. The focus on the improvement of leading and security technology as well as the necessary software tests in the Schwerin signal box are essential in order to continue to ensure smooth and safe operation in the future. However, travelers are well advised to inform themselves about the new connections and courses in good time. All relevant information is available in the electronic timetable information from Deutsche Bahn and the transport associations.
