Storm warning for NRW: Wind gusts of up to 90 km/h are threatening today!
A violent storm is currently causing uncomfortable autumn weather in North Rhine-Westphalia. The German Weather Service (DWD) warns not only of continuous rain, but also of strong gusts of wind, which affect many parts of the state. The warnings are particularly noticeable in the east of North Rhine-Westphalia, as wa.de reports. Gusts of wind with speeds of up to 90 km/h occur here, especially in exposed locations in the Teutoburg Forest and the Egge Mountains.
The wind, blowing from the west and southwest, brings gusts between 65 and 80 km/h. In the Aachen region, stormy gusts of between 60 and 75 km/h can be expected, with peaks of 85 km/h even reaching high altitudes. It will also remain windy in the evening hours, although the wind will initially subside. However, gusts of up to 70 km/h are also possible at night, especially in the Aachen area and Münsterland.
Outlook for the coming week
After a stormy start to the week with further gusts of up to 60 km/h in the lowlands and 70 km/h in the mountainous regions, the population has to prepare for numerous showers. **Thunderstorms** with stormy gusts are also not ruled out. According to the DWD, the weather conditions will temporarily become milder on Tuesday before unpleasant weather returns again in the afternoon.
The storm, which became known as “Joshua”, has already had Germany under control for several days. If you take a look at meteorology, you could speak of a “bombogenesis” because the air pressure has literally collapsed in the last 24 hours. DWD points out that the prevailing conditions can bring gusts of up to 85 km/h, even in high altitudes and near showers.
Drivers are also advised to be particularly careful. Information boards and the Severe Weather Center show current warnings and possible risks such as slippery roads and other dangers. The warnings range from moderate to extreme storms, so it is advisable to regularly check the weather situation.
