School enrollment in Ueckermünde: Hundreds of children start their sea voyage!
Last weekend it was colorful and lively in the Uecker-Randow region as hundreds of families celebrated their little ones starting school. 72 girls and boys were enrolled at the Haff primary school in Ueckermünde, which is slightly fewer than in previous years, but the joy was unbroken. Headmistress Katja Illgen With her speech she ensured a warm welcome for the new “student sailors”. She compared the school to a ship and the children to young sailors, while portraying school time as an exciting sea voyage. The timetable was described as a compass that showed the little sailors the best course. Parents and grandparents play an important role and have been described as “safe anchors” who are always ready to give their children a helping hand.
After a festive ceremony, the enthusiastic participants released balloons and had the opportunity to tour the new classrooms. From Monday, the children will be taught in four classes to begin their journey into learning. In the neighboring school, the Ueckertal elementary school in Pasewalk, 80 new students started in a total of four first classes. Headmaster Ralf Schwarz encouraged the new students to maintain their curiosity and imagination and to always ask questions - a clear invitation to experience the journey of discovery with open eyes.
School structure and offerings in the region
The Haff primary school, which accommodates around 320 students in its classrooms, offers an extensively renovated school building that is located near the beach in Ueckermünde. The school is equipped with modern specialist cabinets that are used, among other things, for computers, music, art and crafts. The teaching methods are diverse and range from frontal teaching to open forms of learning that promote the students' creative potential. Not only is knowledge imparted here, but the children's cooperation, communication and ability to deal with conflict are also strengthened. More about this on the school website.
However, the number of students in Pasewalk remains slightly declining and the city will carry out conversion and renovation work in the school building by the end of the year. However, care is taken to ensure that lessons can continue undisturbed. Parents are called upon to offer their children a feeling of security and safety, and to talk to teachers if they have difficulties.
Support from the state government
Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig wished all school starters and teachers in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania a good start to the new school year. In order to make schools in the region fit for the future, the state government has provided 600 million euros. These investments are intended not only to improve the building structure of the schools, but also to strengthen education as a whole.
Continuous school development is the focus of educational policy at many schools in the region. According to that German school portal Schools' self-reflective work plays a crucial role in providing high-quality training and always optimizing teaching. It takes time, energy and the participation of all stakeholders – from school management to teachers to parents – to achieve sustainable improvements.
It remains to be seen how the schools in the Uecker-Randow region will develop under the influence of these developments. But one thing is certain: the journey has just begun.
