Fire department in Boock celebrates new building: 1.61 million for fire protection!
The new fire department equipment house will be inaugurated in Boock today, June 17, 2025 - a project that took a whopping 12 years to prepare, find funding and build. In his speech, Mayor Gunnar Mißling (CDU) criticized the fact that concerns and critical voices from the local council had persisted since 2013 and meant that urgent measures often fell by the wayside. The old fire station, which dates back to the 1980s, was not only too small, but also no longer met the applicable regulations. Especially after purchasing a new fire engine in 2009, it became obvious that the old premises were no longer sufficient.
The original plan called for an extension costing 360,000 euros, but this was rejected by the majority of community representatives. Instead, the decision was made to build a new building, the need for which was supported by a comprehensive risk analysis and requirements planning. The project was finally implemented with a targeted budget of 78,000 euros. The total costs amounted to 1.61 million euros, with a financing gap of 615,000 euros having to be closed by taking out a loan. Generous funding of 220,000 euros from the state and the district made the project possible in the first place, as Nordkurier reports.
Support and funding
In a further step towards ensuring a modern fire brigade infrastructure, the financial support options and the legal framework make the necessary implementation easier. Volunteer firefighters have the right to safe and appropriate fire stations. According to the accident prevention regulations (UVV), employers are obliged to design workplaces in such a way that the health and safety of employees is guaranteed. The Safe Fire Department emphasizes that municipalities are responsible for the construction measures and must plan them responsibly so that safety deficiencies can no longer be ignored.
Thanks to government funding, numerous municipalities in Germany can rely on substantial help. Fire safety is a huge task, particularly in financially challenging rural areas. This is especially true for municipalities that have to maintain several fire stations. The communities receive support, among other things, through subsidies from the fire protection tax, as is the case in North Rhine-Westphalia. But funding for fire stations should also be further improved in Bavaria. From 2025, the general renovation of existing fire stations will even be funded so that they meet the standard of a new building.
A new chapter for the Boocker Fire Department
The new equipment house in Boock will provide a home for 60 firefighters, 25 of whom are active fire fighters. Fire chief Maik Rieck did not miss the opportunity to thank Mayor Mißling for his tireless commitment and hard work. The construction work was planned by the Kulta engineering firm and carried out by Stieblich Hallenbau, while weekly construction consultations took place under the direction of Mißling's deputy Thomas Moll.
Political representatives were also present at the inauguration ceremony, which was accompanied by Science Minister Bettina Martin (SPD), who congratulated the construction project. At the same time, there were calls for a special funding program for the new equipment sheds in order to strengthen the security and operational readiness of the fire departments in the future. So Boock is now at the beginning of a new chapter, which looks promising with a well-equipped fire station and a motivated team.
