Historical Conversations in Altwarp: Local Heritage in Focus!
Things are starting soon in the Uecker-Randow region! On Sunday, July 6th, an exciting four-part series of discussion events begins in the Heimatstube in Altwarp. From 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. everyone interested is invited to exchange ideas about local history in a cozy atmosphere. The whole thing is organized by the Kulturlandbüro, whose headquarters is in Pasewalk, together with the talented visual artist Kathrin Ollroge. A small snack ensures that the participants are also catered for.
The central theme of these events revolves around the meaning of borders, the experiences of flight and expulsion, and the lessons we can draw from the past for our future. These conversations provide a wonderful opportunity to reflect on local stories and talk to each other. After the expiry of a four-year funding project, the Kulturlandbüro was founded as a non-profit entrepreneurial company to further promote and keep culture and artists in southern Pomerania alive, as nordkurier.de reports.
A prelude to the encounter
The event on July 6th is the first of four dialogues that will take place as part of the “Encounter in Homeland Rooms” series. Not only locals are invited, but everyone who is interested in regional history and would like to address questions about escape and expulsion. In addition to Kathrin Ollroge, Maria Elsner will also be available as a contact person. She can be reached at the email address netzwerk@kulturlandbuero.de for registrations and queries, according to kulturlandbuero.de.
This exchange is particularly important when you consider that 80 years ago around 14 million Germans had to flee from eastern Reich and Eastern European settlement areas. This escape took place under extreme conditions that shaped the fate of many individuals and families. The focus of the events is therefore not only on local history, but also on the shorter and longer-term effects that such historical events have on today's society. There will also be a telephone tour of a permanent exhibition that will shed more light on these fates, according to [fluss-vertreibung-versoehnung.de](https://www.wandel-vertreibung-versoehnung.de/de/ Veranstaltung/80-jahre-kriegsende-wandel-und-vertreibung-anhand-persoenlicher-schicksale).
Citizens of the region are warmly invited to become part of these important conversations. No matter whether you have questions, experiences or just interest – the Heimatstube in Altwarp will be a place for dialogue and encounters. Be there and actively shape the discussions!
