Job center Strasburg closes: customers have to move to Pasewalk!

The Vorpommern-Greifswald job center made an important decision at the end of the year that affects many people in the region. At the end of September, the job center announced the closure of its Strasburg location, news that not only made local job seekers but also the entire community sit up and take notice. The reason for this measure is falling unemployment rates and the rising costs of personnel and services. It was then decided that all services would in future be offered in Pasewalk, Marktstraße 58/60.

From January 1, 2026, a small service was originally intended to remain in Strasburg, but the administration has proven unable to provide a suitable office. Job center managing director Christian Gärtner explained that the decision was made based on technical, organizational and economic considerations. “We have to bring the travel routes for Strasburg customers into line with those of other job center customers in the district,” says Gärtner. Northern Courier reports that many customers are already being served at the Pasewalk location.

Digital support and networking

Another aspect of the current development is the expansion of digital and telephone contact options for the job center. At a time when personal contact is often not possible, this is a step in the right direction. Customers can now resolve their concerns more easily online. This is particularly important because digitalization in job centers has gained considerable momentum in recent years. A study by the Future Laboratory for Society & Work documents that many job centers have already switched to electronic files and digital specialist procedures, which makes work easier for both employees and those seeking help. IDW demonstrated in this study that employees take a pragmatic approach to digitalization, but that there are also challenges that need to be overcome.

Christian Gärtner sees the central Pasewalk location as an opportunity to bundle the consulting teams. His belief is that larger units promote specialization and better knowledge sharing. “This should not only improve teamwork and quality management, but also lead to shorter processing times,” says Gärtner. Jobcenter.info also emphasizes that support for unemployment and job searches, advice and financial benefits are provided in the job centers.

The closure of the Strasburg location is more than just an organizational measure. It also represents the beginning of a new era in which digital solutions and central contact points will also play a greater role in the Vorpommern-Greifswald region. The challenges of digitalization must be addressed, but the course for an innovative and efficient future has already been set.
