New car for the unemployed association: lifesaver for those in need!
In the Uecker-Randow region, the Unemployed Association (ALV) has taken a significant step in supporting people in need. Today, on June 17, 2025, a new Opel Movano was handed over, which will in future be used to supply the food banks in Pasewalk, Torgelow, Eggesin, Ueckermünde, Löcknitz, Penkun, Ferdinandshof and Strasburg. Hannelore Schiebe, chairwoman of the ALV, said that the previous vehicle was badly worn out and the new van was urgently needed. The acquisition costs amount to 20,000 euros, which come primarily from the Vorpommernfonds. Patrick Dahlemann, head of the State Chancellery, handed over the symbolic check. In addition to the Vorpommernfonds, the Volunteer Foundation, the Sparkasse Foundation and a donation from E.ON also contributed to the financing. Nordkurier reports.
But what does this new van actually mean for the people in the region? The ALV not only supplies needy households, but also plays a central role in the local aid network. The constant expansion of the food banks and furniture exchanges in Eggesin, Löcknitz, Pasewalk, Strasburg and Ueckermünde proves that the demand is great. In this context, Hannelore Schiebe emphasized the importance of donations, especially in the furniture sector, in order to ensure comprehensive support.
Technical changes: Need for modern equipment
In addition to the vehicle handover, Schiebe also mentions a technical challenge that the ALV is currently facing. The transition from Windows 10 to Windows 11 is imminent, requiring at least five new computers and the support of an IT professional. The technology is outdated and a functioning network structure is essential for accounting. The amount required for the change will be in the four-digit range.
Five new computers are planned to bring the digital infrastructure up to speed. It is important that this change can be completed by October, because the ALV has a total of 130 members and employs around 110 people. This includes permanent employees, federal volunteers and job opportunities, all of which urgently rely on technical support.
