Cycle path gap closure in Pasewalk: Fast routes for cyclists soon!
The Neustrelitz road construction authority has happily announced that the gap in the cycle path in Pasewalk is now finally being tackled. This project, which will make a significant contribution to strengthening cycling in the region, envisages connecting federal highway 104 from Strasburg with the cycle path towards Anklam. In total, the cycle path extends over almost 270 meters and is scheduled to begin on Monday, June 16th. With expected completion at the end of August 2025, cyclists will soon be able to use a significantly shorter route.
No serious traffic restrictions are expected during the construction work; only partial closures in the intersection area could slow down traffic slightly. The main work will also take place next to the main road, ensuring safety for both cyclists and drivers. Before the actual construction work, the dismantling of lighting poles and the relocation of cables will soon be on the agenda. After this preliminary work, earthworks, the installation of the asphalt pavement and various work on ancillary facilities are planned. Particularly pleasing: The installation of a new bicycle traffic light in the Bahnhofstrasse area will create additional safety for cyclists.
A worthwhile investment
This project is funded by the Federal Republic of Germany with around 246,000 euros and implemented by Eurovia Verkehrsbau from Neubrandenburg. As experts in the field of cycling infrastructure emphasize, the expansion of safe cycle paths is urgently needed. Many cities are struggling to cope with increasing traffic volumes, and better cycling infrastructure could provide real relief on the roads. In addition, the number of registered motor vehicles has increased in recent years, which not only endangers traffic itself, but also safety, especially for cyclists. A functioning cycle path infrastructure is therefore not only desirable, but necessary in order to make mobility in cities more environmentally friendly and safer ab-es-online report that....
However, an example from the region shows how challenging cycle path expansion can be. The gap closure at the Amandusmühle near Durlangen had to be closed again shortly after its opening due to flooding, which raised concerns about the planning. Here the mud from the overflowing water leads to serious challenges for the cyclists [gmuender-tagespost reports that...](https://www.gmuender-tagespost.de/ostalb/schwaebischer-wald/die- Fehlplanung-ist-ein-kompromiss-92067600.html).
A look into the future
Closing the gap in the Pasewalk cycle path could not only make everyday life easier for cyclists, but also serve as a showcase project for other municipalities. With the right strategy and the willingness to invest in modern cycling infrastructure, more environmentally friendly mobility can be promoted in the long term. The interaction of comfortable and safe cycle paths and a forward-looking planning approach is essential to positively shape the future of cycling. It remains to be seen how the work in Pasewalk will be implemented and whether it can serve as an example for future projects in the region.
