Strasburg's 775 years: City festival falters without a call for donations!

In Strasburg, the picturesque town in the Uckermark, there is something special in the air: in 2025 the proud anniversary of 775 years of city charter will be celebrated. In order to properly honor this important event, the city administration has planned a festival week and a city festival from September 12th to 14th, 2025. But despite the anticipation, financial hurdles stand in the way of the celebrations, and the city is asking for support.

Preparations are already in full swing, but the draft budget for 2025 was rejected in April, making planning difficult. An approved budget is not yet in sight, and that means that important voluntary services, such as the city festival, are at risk. However, recent committee meetings signaled support for a double budget for 2025/2026, and the decision is expected to be made at the end of June. Nevertheless, the city administration does not want to put the plans on hold, as Nordkurier reports.

Financial uncertainties and appeal for donations

Applications for funding have been submitted to make the celebrations possible, but the decisions are still pending. In order to implement the various program items, the city relies on financial support. A public appeal for donations was launched and the first funds in the low four-digit range have already been received. A sum in the low five-figure range is required for the festival. Donors can look forward to a small souvenir gift for the 775th anniversary, which will be presented as a thank you.

The planned program includes a variety of cultural events, musical performances, sports activities, a festival march and special offers for families. The participation of local clubs, schools and citizens is particularly important because this is how the feeling of community can be experienced. So far, 35 participants have already registered for the parade - a great opportunity to bring local history to life.

Cuts in the program

However, due to the tense financial situation, some program items have to be canceled. The climbing park, the shawm chapel, a laser show and a music band are no longer available. The fireworks display will also be smaller than originally planned. Despite these cuts, the city remains optimistic and wants to score points with a diverse range of events. The support association for culture, education and sport also takes over the organization of a children's program and the financing.

Anyone interested in taking part in the celebrations is welcome to take part. The plan is being pursued together with the citizens to make the city festival an unforgettable experience that honors both the history and the cultural life of the city. If you would like to find out more or make a donation, you can do so via the city website or directly from the city administration. Sparkasse Uecker-Randow provides a donation account for this purpose: IBAN DE47 1505 0400 3510 0000 55, BIC NOLADE21PSW.

Mayor Klemens Kowalski and Anne Collier from cultural and public relations will be happy to answer any questions you may have. Let's get involved together and properly celebrate the 775 years of Strasburg!
