Creepy anticipation: witches, music and fun in the Kurhausgarten Warnemünde!

On October 31st, a colorful hustle and bustle around Halloween is expected again in Warnemünde. The Rostock & Warnemünde Tourism Office invites you to the Kurhausgarten from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. to offer families with young and old guests an entertaining program. With many hands-on stations, exercise activities and musical performances, there is a lot to discover.

The activities in the Kurhausgarten are a real highlight, especially for the little ones. Among other things, they can have make-up applied, do crafts and play. At the “Our Little World Workshop” stand, you can make masks and Claudia Kraemer will do the face painting. A bouncy castle is available for even more exercise, while stilt walkers in mystical costumes create a magical atmosphere.

A festival with history

Celebrated in many parts of the world, Halloween has its origins in ancient Celtic harvest festivals, most notably Samhain, which marked the transition to winter. How ZDF Reportedly, Halloween is referred to as “All Hallows’ Eve” and is the evening before All Saints’ Day, which has been celebrated since November 1, 835. The Celtic Druids believed that on this date the souls of the dead could communicate with the living.

The custom of dressing up and demanding sweets comes from various traditions and has changed throughout history. For example, in the Roman Empire, children were given fruits on Halloween - a practice reminiscent of the goddess Pomona. In the United States, the costume party and trick or treating are now one of the busiest holidays, right behind Christmas. Most recently there was sales of around 10 billion dollars in the Halloween sector, while in Germany around 480 million euros were spent on Halloween items in 2023.

Traditions and beliefs

Halloween is not only a festival of sweets, but also characterized by cultural beliefs. Some believe that evil spirits roam around Halloween, so people dress up and offer food to protect themselves. However, the question remains as to how Christian principles relate to this - many people, particularly in the biblical context, question the celebration and seek an ethical approach to the origins of Halloween. Bibleinfo highlights that the Bible condemns such practices while encouraging reflection on things that are noble and pure.

In Warnemünde on October 31st there is not only a celebration, but also a space for reflection. Whether children are asking for candy in costumes or having fun in the bouncy castle, the focus is on spending time together and having fun. Come along and experience an afternoon full of fun and creative activities! Live music from “Oded Kafri & Drum the World” as well as gastronomic catering from the Kurhaus Warnemünde round off the festival.
