Hanse Sail 2025: Tradition, fun and sailing fun for the whole family!
The Hanse Sail in Rostock-Warnemünde, one of the largest maritime festivals in Germany, is about to reach its grand conclusion on Sunday, August 10, 2025. At the 34th edition of the event, over 120 traditional sailors have come together to offer visitors an impressive spectacle. Prime Minister Manuela Schwesig and Rostock's Mayor Eva-Maria Kröger led the opening celebrations. But even if the sailing trips are already fully booked, some ships are open for viewing, giving onlookers the opportunity to experience the maritime diversity up close.
Whether at the Warnemünde pier or in the city harbor - the ships are not only a wet and happy event, but also a feast for the eyes. The barque “Belem”, a proud ship that was launched in 1896, is celebrated as the flagship of the Hanse Sail. In addition, the “Anny von Hamburg” and the barquentine “Atlantis” also attract attention. Every year more than a million visitors come to celebrate maritime heritage and admire the more than 250 participating ships, spanning a total length of over 6 km.
Cultural highlights and attractions
As with every Hanse Sail, many activities are planned this time that will make the festival an unforgettable experience. Visitors can look forward to a varied stage program, ranging from musical performances to magical children's programs. Highlights include performances by Ernie and Bert, a children's magic show and the eagerly awaited performance by the Pasternack Big Band at 6 p.m.
The culinary diversity is also not neglected: in the IGA Park and around the Kröpeliner Tor in the city center, visitors can enjoy regional specialties. Live music and fireworks displays planned for Thursday and Saturday will also create a festive atmosphere. The organizers have enhanced the program with a colorful mix of rides, cultural experiences and exhibitions. The NDR live streams from the Hanse Sail Club also attract many viewers.
Additional offers and travel options
The Hanse Sail consists of seven areas: Warnemünde, city and fishing port, IGA Park, Hohe Düne naval area and Gehlsdorf. Numerous “strolling miles” are created here where guests can make direct contact with the crews of the historic ships. From the icebreaker “Stettin” to various steam ships, everything is included. If you want to reach the city, you have the option of taking the S-Bahn every ten minutes. The parking lot at the city harbor is also available to guests for easy parking.
The atmosphere on site is unforgettable. With a lot of commitment from around 30,000 sailors, the maritime heritage is kept alive. Despite some weather-related challenges, the Hanse Sail 2025 still has a lot to offer and promises a successful conclusion that will once again captivate the guests. Curious people can rejoice, because the range of attractions and the opportunity to experience the impressive ships are very popular!
