New youth club Pablo Neruda”: Rostock’s future for young talents!
Rostock-Evershagen is currently working hard, and not just in a figurative sense. On July 11, 2025, the topping-out ceremony was held for the new youth club “Pablo Neruda” at Maxim-Gorki-Straße 67, a construction project that not only offers young people a place, but is also part of a comprehensive renovation project.
The investment for the youth club amounts to around one million euros of the total budget of around 15 million euros that is earmarked for the entire construction work. The new club will be sponsored by the Jugendwohnen Hansestadt Rostock e.V. Association. The new club will offer a variety of options on around 230 square meters: from a multifunctional room for theater performances and concerts to variable-use rooms and a complete kitchen. Completion is expected to take place by mid-2027, so that a breath of fresh air can soon enter youth culture.
Redevelopment and inclusion go hand in hand
But the youth club is not the only thing that is being created here. The former school building in the immediate vicinity is also being completely renovated. The list not only includes upgrading the outer shell, the roof and the facade, but also creating accessibility through a new elevator. Up to 220 children will be admitted to the “De Ostseegörn” after-school care center, which is also part of the project, and 250 students will learn in the new classrooms at the vocational school.
The renovation is supported by various funding, including 3.7 million euros for the after-school care center and the youth club from the European Regional Development Fund. This shows how important creating such spaces is for the community. Inclusion is always the focus here, as the entire building is being redesigned to be barrier-free to ensure access for all children and young people, regardless of their individual needs.
A step into the future
The present project is part of a larger trend that is characterized by innovative and inclusive school development. The Evangelical Schools program “Inclusive Reconstruction: Increasing School Quality – Promoting Accessibility” promotes such projects throughout the country in order to break down barriers and create new learning and creative spaces. There are a few general conditions to consider for schools that want to apply for these funds, but the support is a real benefit for the entire school and educational landscape.
The construction work at Maxim-Gorki-Straße 67 is therefore not only a modern construction project, but also a significant step towards an inclusive future for young people in Rostock. The tense wait for the opening is sure to bring the local community even more together. There are a lot of positive things coming our way!
