Rostock's concert highlight: youth orchestras set musical accents!
Next December 17th the second concert of the Rostock Conservatory will take place in the Volkstheater Rostock. From 7 p.m., young and old will be thrilled by the musical performance of the youth symphony orchestra under the direction of Johannes Lang. The concert evening promises a varied program that will take listeners on a short musical journey. Rathaus Rostock reports that in the first part the orchestra presents Beethoven's first movements of his “Pastorale” as well as the impressive arrangement of the Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor by Johann Sebastian Bach by Leopold Stokowski. The finale is the rousing Forrest Gump Suite by Alan Silvestri.
But the youth symphony orchestra is not the only highlight of the evening. The junior string orchestra, conducted by Andreas Lindner, will also perform and perform works by Béla Bartók, Regine Nosske, a Rostock composer, and Melchior Frank, among others. Even though it was originally supposed to be a very modest stage, the director of the conservatory, Johannes Lang, hopes for a large audience that will appreciate the musicians' effort.
A look back at musical development
In the weeks leading up to the concert, a lively program took place at the Rostock Conservatory. It started on November 16th with a teachers' concert in which numerous music teachers performed for their students, parents and friends. The concert attracted up to 200 spectators and offered works from different eras as well as an original composition by Steffi Cleemann. According to Nordkurier, the conservatory has shown considerable growth in numbers despite many challenges. Despite the increase in tuition fees and a reduction in teaching staff from 80 to 50 teachers, 2,000 students are still enrolled.
Since the city could not take on all musicians, there were significant changes in 2023 that influenced the music landscape in Rostock. The students benefit from a broad education, and the conservatory is resilient in its mission to make music accessible to everyone. Music lovers can look forward to further concerts, including another on December 3rd that will focus on an original composition by drum teacher Paul Beu.
