Surprise transfer: Lößner strengthens the University of Greifswald/Loitz in handball!

The regional league handball players from SG Uni Greifswald/Loitz start preparing for the new season on Tuesday evening and bring an exciting surprise with them: Richard Lößner, most recently at Empor Rostock, is moving to the Hanseatic city. The 27-year-old will play a central role in the team after negotiations over a contract extension with his former club failed. This is reported by the Northern Courier.

Lößner, who came to Rostock from SC Magdeburg in 2021, was unable to agree on a new deal despite initial agreement on a contract extension. According to the club's management, the separation took place for “sporting and economic reasons” and caused a stir among spectators and fans. Last season, HC Empor Rostock already relied on a broader formation in the backcourt and planned to replace Lößner with other players like Matheus Costa Dias and Lasse Fischer, like us Handball world reported.

New squad, new goals

Under coach Jürgen Radloff, who has been on board since autumn 2024, the SG Uni Greifswald/Loitz is pursuing clear goals: “We don’t want to have anything to do with relegation,” says the coach, relying on a strong team. Interestingly, the club is not just planning to score points with Lößner. Another player from Empor Rostock may be on the list, and a talent from the first Portuguese league is also expected.

In addition, Florian Fink, backcourt player from league rivals HSV Insel Usedom, will strengthen the team. Joey-Pascal Ernst, who was already active last season, will be a permanent member of the team and has already scored three goals in a game against Lübbenau. But the squad also has its departures: three top performers, Marc-Christoph Hagemeier, Gergö Toth and Michal Czerwinski, have left the club.

Preparations are underway

Another important point is preparing for the new season. The coaches and players from SG Uni Greifswald/Loitz have planned several test games against MV league teams in order to optimally prepare for the challenges of the regional league. The season starts in mid-September, but the exact schedule has not yet been determined.

The changes in the team show how dynamic and exciting handball can be. As the squad regroups, it remains to be hoped that the team will offer spectators a thrilling spectacle. As the latest transfers show, surprises are always to be expected in handball - it remains to be seen what dramas and joys will await us in the coming competition Sports News Today determines.
