Traffic chaos in the stadium: This is how fans can get to the Hansa game safely!
On Saturday, August 16, 2025, the Ostseestadion Rostock invites you to an exciting football game: The F.C. Hansa Rostock takes on TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. Kick-off is at 3:30 p.m. and the anticipation for this DFB Cup game is already great. However, as is usual with such major events, there are a few things to consider, particularly regarding the traffic situation around the stadium.
As the city of Rostock reported in a statement, traffic restrictions will apply on Kopernikusstrasse and in the Garden City area from around 1:30 p.m. Ernst-Heydemann-Straße is also particularly affected. Residents must be prepared for the fact that the one-way street at Waldessaum/Trotzenburger Weg can only be used as an entrance, while the exit is via Asternweg at the corner of Kopernikusstrasse. In addition, seven barriers were installed at other junctions to prevent entry and exit until the start of the game. However, fire and rescue services will have access to the driveways at all times.
Public transport recommended
In order to better cope with the expected influx of visitors, the use of public transport is recommended. From 1:50 p.m., Rostocker Straßenbahn AG will use additional buses from the Groß Schwaßer Weg car park and from 1:40 p.m. from the North Central Station, which will run to the stadium every 15 minutes. S-Bahn trains between Rostock main station and Warnemünde also run twice as long, but only every 30 minutes. The already regular bus lines 25 and 28 as well as the tram are also available. However, there are no public parking spaces in the immediate vicinity of the stadium, so people who want to arrive by car have to use the P+R parking lot on Barnstorfer Ring/Groß Schwaßer Weg, which, however, has limited capacity.
Another note for fans: the stadium entrance opens at 1:30 p.m. Fans of the North Stand should note that access to Block 1/2 is closed due to construction work on floodlight masts. However, the other entrances to the north stand are accessible at all times. If you would like to quickly purchase a fan item, you can do so in the stadium fan shop, which is open from 12:15 p.m.
Additional offers and activities
On the north forecourt there are fun activities for the youngest visitors on match day - on Malstraße there are special offers for Hansa kids. There will also be an autograph session with a Hansa professional between 2:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. on the West Promenade. Visitors can get food and drinks in the fan house, which is also open from 12:00 p.m. And for those who want to enjoy a refreshing drink during the game, a deposit of 2.00 euros will be charged for the cups.
In the context of such major events, it is also important to keep an eye on sustainable mobility. At events like this, but also at other large occasions, effective traffic management is essential to avoid high CO2 emissions and make travel easier. This happens through close cooperation between organizers and transport companies, which will also be evident at the upcoming football match. A mobility app like goodride could offer numerous options for getting there and help promote sustainable mobility, as has already been successfully tested at larger events in Germany.
In summary, the football game on August 16th is expected - and not just because of the great teams! A good hand when traveling by public transport will certainly help the visitor to have a relaxed journey and a successful game. The organizers and the city of Rostock ask for your understanding for the temporary traffic restrictions and look forward to numerous spectators in the Ostseestadion!
