Sassnitz Harbor: Major project until 2035 and shocking drug cases!

A lot is happening in Sassnitz! The entrepreneur Thomas Kaul has big plans for the port of his hometown. His goal is to expand this into a “lighthouse on the Baltic Sea” by 2035. He not only wants to boost maritime tourism, but also promote the economic development of the region. But the challenges are obvious: a smaller budget and a declining population make this vision not exactly easy. Nevertheless, the Sail GP brings international attention, which he wants to use to put Sassnitz in the right light. This means that it is already clear: There is something going on in the Baltic Sea!

Sailing fans get their money's worth in the Lauterbach marina, where around 140 yachts are anchored in the summer months. The harbor offers beginners the opportunity to learn the basics of sailing - from theoretical introductions to dry runs on land. While regular passenger ship tours take you to the popular excursion destination Vilm Island and through the Southeast Rügen Biosphere Reserve, the harbor restaurant delights with fresh fish and a view of the ships. This makes every visit an experience that lasts!

Difficult times for the region

Another issue that concerns the region is a burst water pipe in Bergen Süd. A 60-year-old water pipe gave up the ghost and led to a loss of drinking water supply for many households for hours. The affected residents were supplied with water trucks, but final repairs are not expected until November.
